Ontario Volunteer Hours 2026: OSSD Requirements, New Rules and How to Make Them Count
Why Your Volunteer Hours Matter More Than Ever
What if your high school volunteer hours could do more than just help you graduate—what if they could shape your future?
For years, the 40-hour community involvement requirement for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) has been seen as a simple checklist item. But in 2026, that perspective is quickly changing. With new provincial recognition programs and an increasing emphasis on real-world experience, volunteer hours are now becoming one of the most valuable—and often overlooked—tools students have to stand out.
In today’s competitive academic and career landscape, grades alone are no longer enough. Universities, employers, and scholarship committees are looking for students who demonstrate initiative, leadership, and a commitment to their communities. This is exactly where strategic volunteering makes a difference.
By approaching community involvement with intention, students can transform a basic graduation requirement into a powerful foundation for future success.
What Are Ontario Volunteer Hours? (OSSD Requirement Explained)
To earn an OSSD, students must complete at least 40 hours of community involvement outside of regular instructional time.
Students can begin accumulating these hours as early as the summer before Grade 9.
Eligible activities include:
Participation in community events and local initiatives
Supporting non-profit organizations and charitable causes
Assisting with school programs such as peer mentoring or event coordination
Completing approved virtual or remote volunteer roles
These experiences are designed to help students develop responsibility, community awareness, and valuable life skills.
What’s New in 2026: Volunteer Achievement Certificates
A major update is the introduction of the Volunteer Achievement Certificate Program.
Students can now earn:
Bronze Certificate: 50–99 hours
Silver Certificate: 100–199 hours
Gold Certificate: 200+ hours
These certificates provide formal recognition and strengthen academic and extracurricular profiles.
Why High School Volunteer Hours Matter in Ontario
Volunteer hours are more than a requirement—they are a strategic advantage.
1. Building Transferable, Real-World Skills
Through meaningful community involvement, students develop essential skills such as:
Communication and interpersonal skills
Teamwork and collaboration
Leadership and initiative
Problem-solving and adaptability
These competencies are critical not only in academic settings but also in future careers.
2. Strengthening Post-Secondary Applications
Universities and colleges are increasingly looking for well-rounded applicants.
Volunteer experience demonstrates:
Initiative beyond academics
Commitment to personal growth
Engagement with the community
Students who can showcase meaningful involvement often stand out in competitive admissions processes.
3. Gaining Early Career Exposure
For many students, volunteering serves as their first introduction to structured work environments.
It helps them:
Build confidence in professional settings
Understand expectations in real-world roles
Explore potential career paths early
This early exposure can play a key role in shaping future academic and career decisions.
Choosing Volunteer Opportunities That Align With Your Goals
To maximize the value of your Ontario volunteer hours, it’s important to choose opportunities that align with your interests and long-term goals.
For example:
Healthcare Pathways: Volunteering at hospitals or community health programs
Business & Leadership: Assisting with event planning, marketing, or administrative tasks
Education & Mentorship: Tutoring younger students or supporting youth initiatives
When students choose roles strategically, they not only gain hours—they build a clear and focused personal profile.
How to Make Your Volunteer Hours Truly Count
Completing hours is one thing—making them meaningful is another.
✔ Focus on Contribution, Not Just Completion
Think about the value you bring and the skills you develop, rather than simply tracking hours.
✔ Demonstrate Long-Term Commitment
Consistent involvement with one organization often reflects stronger dedication than multiple short-term roles.
✔ Keep Detailed and Accurate Records
Students should carefully track:
Organization name
Dates and total hours
Supervisor contact information
Accurate documentation ensures validation and supports future academic or job applications.
Presenting Volunteer Experience Professionally
Volunteer work should be presented with the same level of professionalism as paid experience.
When including it on a resume or application, highlight:
Specific roles and responsibilities
Measurable contributions
Skills gained
Examples:
Organized and supported community initiatives
Assisted in team coordination and event execution
Led group activities and contributed to program planning
A well-structured presentation can significantly strengthen applications.
Turning Volunteer Experience Into Long-Term Success
The true impact of volunteering lies in reflection and application.
Students should consider:
What skills they developed
How their experiences connect to future goals
For instance, volunteering in a healthcare environment can demonstrate empathy and communication—key qualities for medical or health-related fields.
When used effectively, volunteer hours become more than a requirement—they become a foundation for future success.

TAS1O – Technology and the Skilled Trades (Grade 9): Now Offered at Aubrey Academy
Grade 9 Technology and the Skilled Trades
The Technology and the Skilled Trades, Grade 9 course (TAS1O) replaces the previous Grade 9 Exploring Technologies (TIJ1O) course from 2009. This course is designed to provide students with opportunities to further explore the engineering design process and develop technological knowledge and skills introduced in earlier grades.
Students live in a world where technologies connect with and impact every part of our lives. The career opportunities in technological fields have grown over the past decade. As such, it is important for all students to be exposed to these fields and career opportunities and to be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the jobs of tomorrow.
Starting with students entering high school in the 2024–25 school year, all students are required to earn a Grade 9 or 10 Technological Education credit, which is a compulsory graduation requirement for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
Technology and the Skilled Trades (TAS1O) will be taught starting in the 2024–25 school year. It can be offered as a standalone course or as a broad-based technology (BBT) focus course.
Aubrey Academy is proud to announce that we now offer TAS1O – Technology and the Skilled Trades, a Grade 9 open credit course designed to introduce students to technological education through project-based learning and real-world problem-solving.
This engaging course allows students to explore technology, innovation, and skilled trades while building foundational skills that support future success in secondary school and beyond.
What Is TAS1O – Technology and the Skilled Trades?
TAS1O is a Grade 9 Ontario technological education course that introduces students to the engineering design process, practical problem-solving, and the safe use of tools, materials, and digital technologies.
Students will:
Apply the stages of the engineering design process to solve authentic problems
Design, build, and test prototypes and models
Explore multiple areas of technology and skilled trades
Develop awareness of health and safety practices
Investigate career pathways in technology and skilled trades
There are no prerequisites, making TAS1O accessible to all Grade 9 students regardless of previous experience.
Why TAS1O Matters: Ontario Graduation Requirement
Beginning with students who entered Grade 9 in September 2024, the Ontario Ministry of Education requires that all students earn at least one Grade 9 or Grade 10 technological education credit as part of their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) requirements.
TAS1O fulfills this graduation requirement while providing students with meaningful exposure to technology-focused learning early in their high school journey.
This provincial change reflects Ontario’s commitment to preparing students for a rapidly evolving workforce and increasing demand in skilled trades, engineering, manufacturing, construction, and applied technologies.
The Bigger Picture: Preparing Students for Tomorrow’s Workforce
Ontario and Canada continue to experience growing demand for professionals in:
Skilled trades (electricians, carpenters, HVAC, mechanics)
Engineering and applied sciences
Manufacturing and automation
Construction and infrastructure
Renewable energy and sustainability sectors
By introducing technological education in Grade 9, students gain early insight into these pathways and can make more informed course selections in Grades 10–12.
TAS1O helps students connect classroom learning to real-world applications, making education more relevant, engaging, and future-focused.
What Learning Looks Like in TAS1O
Rather than relying solely on traditional worksheets or lectures, TAS1O emphasizes:
Project-based learning
Design challenges
Collaborative problem-solving
Digital tools and simulations
Reflection and iterative improvement
Students are encouraged to test ideas, learn from mistakes, and refine their designs—mirroring how real engineers and technologists work.
Skills Students Develop in TAS1O
Through hands-on and collaborative learning, students build both technical and transferable skills, including:
Critical and creative thinking
Communication and teamwork
Time management and organization
Problem-solving and innovation
Responsibility and safety awareness
These skills support success across all postsecondary pathways: university, college, apprenticeship, and workforce entry.
Who Should Take TAS1O?
TAS1O is well suited for:
Students who enjoy hands-on or visual learning
Students who struggle in heavily text-based courses
Creative and curious thinkers
Students interested in engineering, architecture, or trades
Students who are unsure of their future career path
Because the course is exploratory, it provides a low-pressure environment for students to discover interests and strengths.
How TAS1O Supports Future Course Planning
Completing TAS1O in Grade 9 can lead to:
Grade 10–12 technological education courses
Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs
Co-operative education placements
Apprenticeship-focused pathways
Early exposure helps students build a strong foundation and keeps multiple pathways open.
A Strong Fit for Flexible and Online Learners
At Aubrey Academy, we support diverse learners, including student-athletes, independent learners, and students who benefit from flexible pacing.
Our online-supported TAS1O course maintains alignment with Ontario curriculum expectations while offering structured guidance, clear milestones, and accessible learning materials.
Parent Insight
If your child is uncertain about future plans, TAS1O is an excellent Grade 9 choice. The course fulfills a required graduation credit and provides valuable exposure to practical, real-world learning—helping students discover interests early and build confidence.

Understanding Equivalency and PLAR in Ontario: How Students Can Earn Up to 26 High School Credits from Previous Schooling
Students who transfer schools, move to Ontario, or return to education often ask:
“Will my previous schooling count toward my Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)?”
According to Ontario Ministry of Education policy, students are entitled to have their prior learning evaluated through Equivalency and Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR).
These pathways allow students to receive official Ontario credits for learning they have already completed—reducing the number of courses they must take and accelerating their path to graduation.
At Aubrey Academy, we specialize in both processes and help students maximize eligible credits while staying fully compliant with Ministry requirements.
What Is Equivalency in Ontario?
Equivalency applies primarily to Grades 9 and 10.
The Ontario Ministry of Education allows schools to grant equivalency credits when students have completed comparable learning outside Ontario, including:
International school systems
Other Canadian provinces
Private or online schools
Recognized alternative programs
Instead of repeating coursework, schools analyze transcripts and map completed learning to Ontario curriculum expectations.
How Many Equivalency Credits Are Possible?
Under Ministry policy:
Students may earn up to 16 equivalency credits for Grade 9–10 learning
This typically covers all compulsory Grade 9 and 10 credits
These credits are granted through transcript review and do not require the student to write a course exam again.
Result: Students enter senior high school (Grades 11–12) with a strong credit base.
What Is PLAR (Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition)?
PLAR applies primarily to Grades 11 and 12.
PLAR recognizes that students may already possess the knowledge and skills of an Ontario course through:
Previous high school courses
International curricula
Private school programs
Online learning
Homeschooling
Work or life experience (where applicable)
Instead of repeating the entire course, students demonstrate learning through:
Diagnostic assessments
Assignments or projects
Unit tests
Final exams
Portfolios
If expectations are met, the school grants the credit.
How Many PLAR Credits Are Allowed in Ontario?
According to Ontario Ministry policy:
Students may earn up to 10 PLAR credits toward the OSSD
Of these, no more than 4 PLAR credits may be at the Grade 12 level
The remaining PLAR credits are usually at the Grade 11 level
These credits appear on the Ontario transcript exactly like traditional course credits.
Maximum Credit Scenario
When Equivalency and PLAR are combined:
Up to 16 Grade 9–10 equivalency credits
Up to 10 Grade 11–12 PLAR credits
Total possible: up to 26 credits
Since an OSSD requires 30 total credits, some students may only need to complete 4 additional Ontario courses to graduate. (Exact numbers vary based on individual transcripts and graduation requirements.)
Compulsory Credits Still Matter
Even when using Equivalency and PLAR, students must still meet Ontario’s compulsory credit requirements, including:
English (4 credits)
Mathematics (3 credits)
Science (2 credits)
Canadian Geography
Canadian History
Civics
Career Studies
Health & Physical Education
Arts
French as a Second Language
A Ministry-inspected school ensures that awarded credits properly satisfy these categories.
How the PLAR & Equivalency Process Works at Aubrey Academy
Submit transcripts and academic records
Academic team completes Ministry-aligned review
Eligible equivalency credits are granted
PLAR assessments are assigned (if applicable)
Credits are recorded on Ontario transcript
Graduation plan is created
All documentation is maintained according to Ministry inspection standards.
Are Universities and Colleges OK with PLAR and Equivalency?
Yes! Ontario universities and colleges accept OSSD credits regardless of whether they were earned through:
Traditional coursework
Equivalency
PLAR
What matters is that the credits are issued by a Ministry-inspected Ontario private school following policy.
Why Families Choose Aubrey Academy for PLAR and Equivalency
Ministry-aligned evaluation process
Experienced PLAR assessors
Clear graduation planning
Faster pathway to OSSD
Support for international and newcomer students
Official Ontario report cards and transcripts
At Aubrey Academy, we believe students should never lose years of progress because they changed schools or countries. Ontario’s Equivalency and PLAR policies exist to honour prior learning and create fair access to graduation. With the right school and proper evaluation, students may already be much closer to their OSSD than they realize.

Is It Too Late to Upgrade High School Marks in Ontario?
One of the most common questions families ask is:
“Is it too late to upgrade high school marks for university or college?”
The short answer is: No — it’s often not too late.
At Aubrey Academy, we regularly help students upgrade marks, earn missing credits, and strengthen their academic profile, even when deadlines feel close.
Why Students Need to Upgrade High School Marks
Students may need to upgrade marks for many reasons, including:
University or college admission requirements
Competitive program cut-offs
Low marks due to illness, personal circumstances, or disruptions
Returning to school after time away
Improving GPA for scholarships or post-secondary options
Upgrading a course can make a significant difference in admission outcomes.
How Credit Upgrades Work in Ontario
In Ontario, students are allowed to retake or upgrade high school courses through approved institutions.
At Aubrey Academy:
Courses follow the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum
Credits count toward the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
Students receive official report cards and transcripts
Courses are assessed by Ontario-certified teachers
Aubrey Academy is a Ministry-inspected private high school (BSID #665140).
Is Online Learning a Good Option for Credit Upgrades?
For many students, online asynchronous learning is the most effective way to upgrade marks.
Our model allows students to:
• Start anytime (no semester restrictions)
• Work at their own pace
• Fast-track if deadlines are approaching
• Balance school with athletics, work, or personal commitments
This flexibility is especially helpful for:

NCAA Eligibility in Canada: Your Complete Step-by-Step Guide
The Complete Roadmap for NCAA Eligibility as a Canadian Student
Every year, talented Canadian student-athletes lose their shot at playing NCAA sports — not because they lacked skill, but because they didn’t meet the academic eligibility requirements.
The NCAA eligibility process for Canadians can feel like a maze, especially for Ontario students balancing OSSD credits with U.S. athletic requirements. The good news? With the right planning, you can keep your NCAA dream alive.
Here’s your complete roadmap for NCAA eligibility in Canada.
1. Understand the NCAA Eligibility Center
The NCAA Eligibility Center is where every prospective Division I and II student-athlete must register. It verifies both your academics and amateur status before you can compete.
Division I & II: Academic + amateurism certification required
Division III: Academic eligibility is determined by the individual college
If you’re a Canadian high school athlete, registration is your first step toward competing in the NCAA.
2. Know the Core-Course Requirements
The NCAA requires 16 core courses in specific subject areas:
4 years of English
3 years of Math (Algebra I or higher)
2 years of Natural/Physical Science
1 additional year of English, Math, or Science
2 years of Social Science
4 additional years from the above or foreign language, religion, philosophy
For Ontario high school students, this means carefully mapping your OSSD courses to NCAA-approved subjects. Not every course counts toward NCAA eligibility, and the approved list can vary by school.
3. Calculate Your NCAA GPA
Your NCAA GPA is not the same as your Ontario average. Only the 16 core courses count, and grades are converted to a U.S. 4.0 GPA scale.
If you’re aiming for a Division I athletic scholarship, maintaining a high GPA in NCAA-approved courses is critical.
4. Plan Your Timeline Early
Start in Grade 9:
Review NCAA-approved courses for your school
Ensure you’re on track for all 16 core courses
By Grade 11:
Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center
Begin collecting transcripts and standardized test scores (if required)
By Grade 12:
Complete all core courses
Request final amateurism certification
Send your final transcripts immediately after graduation
Following this timeline is key for any Canadian athlete pursuing NCAA scholarships.
5. Send the Right Documents
The NCAA requires official transcripts directly from your school. Ontario students often need:
Transcripts for all Grade 9–12 courses
Proof of graduation (OSSD)
Additional summer courses if needed for eligibility
6. Avoid Common PitfallS
Taking non-approved online courses
Leaving math or science requirements until your final semester
Failing to maintain amateur status (e.g., accepting certain types of payments or endorsements before eligibility)
7. Work With a School That Knows NCAA Rules
Many Canadian schools don’t actively track NCAA requirements. If you fall behind, online OSSD courses can help fill gaps or upgrade grades without delaying graduation.
At Aubrey Academy, we work with Canadian student-athletes to:
Ensure all courses are NCAA-approved
Offer flexible, asynchronous learning for busy training schedules
Help meet core-course requirements before recruitment deadlines
✅ Pro Tip: The earlier you start your NCAA eligibility plan as a Canadian student, the more options you’ll have when recruitment season arrives.
The NCAA pathway for Canadian student-athletes isn’t just about talent on the field — it’s about having the right academic plan off the field. By understanding the requirements early, mapping your courses carefully, and partnering with a school that knows the NCAA process inside and out, you can keep every door to U.S. college athletics open. Your dream is possible — and the roadmap starts here.
If you need help planning your NCAA eligibility pathway, course selection, or timing your online OSSD credits, Aubrey Academy is here to guide you.
Our team works with Canadian student-athletes every day to make sure they stay on track academically while pursuing their athletic goals.

Aubrey Academy Spotlight: Evans Barning Jr. Takes His Game to Division I Basketball at WVU
At Aubrey Academy, we believe that student-athletes deserve every opportunity to succeed both on the court and in the classroom. Competing at the next level, especially in Division I basketball, requires more than just talent — it takes discipline, resilience, academic readiness, and a strong support system of coaches, parents, teachers, and mentors working together.
This is what drives our work every day: providing flexible, NCAA-approved online high school courses that allow athletes to balance training, travel, and competition with their academic progress. When these pieces come together, anything is possible.
The Power of Collaboration
We’ve seen firsthand how powerful it can be when a community rallies behind a student-athlete. Coaches who push their players to new heights. Parents who provide encouragement and guidance. Teachers who adapt learning to fit demanding schedules. Mentors who open doors to new opportunities.
A recent success story perfectly captures this spirit. Thanks to an introduction from Dash at D-Lab, Aubrey Academy was able to support a talented young player in his journey to achieve something extraordinary.
Spotlight on Evans Barning Jr.
That player is Evans Barning Jr., a 6-foot-7 forward from Toronto, Ontario, who has officially committed to play Division I basketball at West Virginia University (WVU).
Evans has been making waves across the basketball world. At Archbishop Carroll High School in Washington, D.C., he averaged 10.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game this past season, with standout performances such as:
13 points and 11 rebounds against DeMatha
20 points and 11 rebounds versus Concordia Prep
17 points and 15 rebounds against Neumann Goretti
He also starred with Team Durant in the Nike EYBL circuit, where he averaged 8.8 points and 4.3 rebounds per game at Peach Jam, highlighted by a 29-point explosion against eventual champions Brad Beal Elite.
A Big Decision: Reclassifying to 2025
Originally a member of the Class of 2026, Evans has chosen to reclassify to 2025 and will join WVU for the 2025-26 season. Taking the final roster spot, he begins his next chapter in the prestigious Big 12 Conference under head coach Ross Hodge, who praised him as “a versatile forward with great length and athleticism.”
Balancing Academics and Athletics
What makes Evans’ story special is not just his athletic accomplishments but the way he managed to stay academically strong while competing at the highest levels. With Aubrey Academy’s flexible online programs, he was able to stay prepared for NCAA eligibility requirements while keeping pace with his athletic commitments.
Our role wasn’t to change Evans’ story — it was to support it. By providing the tools, structure, and flexibility, we helped create the space for his talent, dedication, and character to shine.
From Dream to Reality
Evans summed it up best himself:
“I want to thank God for putting me in this position to exceed. My family for supporting my dreams since day one. My teammates for fighting with me through hardship. That being said, I’m excited to go to WVU.”
His commitment to West Virginia is a proud moment for Evans, his family, his coaches, and for us here at Aubrey Academy. It also serves as inspiration for every student-athlete who dreams of reaching the next level.
At Aubrey Academy, we help student-athletes like Evans balance their academics and athletics while preparing for NCAA eligibility and university pathways.

👩🏫 A Note from Our Co-op Teacher
As the Co-op teacher at Aubrey Academy, I’ve had the privilege of seeing firsthand how powerful these experiences can be. I’ve watched students discover unexpected passions, gain confidence, and form professional relationships that often continue well after the placement ends.
Some of my most memorable moments include hearing students say things like,
“I didn’t think I’d like working in a law office, but now I’m looking into paralegal programs,” or
“My Co-op showed me I actually love working with kids—now I’m thinking about teacher’s college.”
Every placement is unique, but the personal growth and clarity students develop through this program is something I find deeply rewarding. It’s a real game-changer for students figuring out what’s next
📌 Who Can Enroll?
Our Co-op program is open to Grade 11 and 12 students currently working toward their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) at Aubrey Academy. Students will complete a Pre-Co-op readiness module before beginning their placement to ensure they are prepared to succeed in the workplace.

Can You Still Get an OSSD as an Adult or Mature Student?
Many adults find themselves at a crossroads, wondering if it’s too late to finish high school. Whether you left school early, moved to Ontario from another country, or simply want to open new doors for your career or education, the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) is still within reach — and more accessible than ever before.
At Aubrey Academy, we specialize in helping adult learners achieve their educational goals through flexible, online learning. Our programs are built to meet you where you are, regardless of your age or background.
Understanding the OSSD for Adults
The Ontario Secondary School Diploma is one of the most widely recognized high school credentials in the world. While it’s commonly associated with teenage students in grades 9 through 12, the truth is that adults are just as eligible to complete this diploma — and the Ministry of Education provides specific pathways to support mature students.
If you’re over the age of 18 and have been out of school for some time, you may qualify for what’s known as the "mature student" stream. This designation opens the door to earning credits for your prior experience, education, and training — a process called Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR). PLAR can reduce the number of courses you need to complete and help you move toward graduation more efficiently.
At Aubrey Academy, our team walks you through every step of the PLAR process. We help you identify which past work experience, training, or education might count toward your diploma, and we support you with a learning plan tailored to your unique history and future goals.
A Learning Model That Fits Real Life
One of the most common reasons adults hesitate to return to school is time. Between work, family, and other commitments, many feel like there’s just no way to fit high school courses into their busy lives. That’s where our fully online, asynchronous learning model changes everything.
With Aubrey Academy, there are no rigid schedules. You can log in at any time, from anywhere, and complete your coursework at your own pace. This flexibility makes it possible to earn your OSSD without having to sacrifice work hours or family responsibilities. Many of our students complete courses while working full-time or caring for children — and they do so successfully because they’re supported every step of the way.
All courses are taught by certified Ontario teachers who understand the needs of mature learners. Our instructors are patient, responsive, and trained to guide you through course content even if it’s been years since you’ve been in a classroom.
Careers in Canada That Require an OSSD
Completing your OSSD isn’t just about personal fulfillment — it’s a necessary step toward many in-demand jobs and careers in Ontario and across Canada. In fact, a wide range of professions list the OSSD as a minimum requirement for entry or further training.
If you're aiming for any of the following careers, completing your high school diploma is a crucial first step:
Police Officer: Most police services in Ontario require an OSSD before you can apply, along with further post-secondary education or training at the Ontario Police College.
Licensed Tradesperson: Whether you're pursuing a career in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or other skilled trades, your OSSD is often required to enter apprenticeship programs or apply for certification.
Early Childhood Educator (ECE): Colleges offering ECE programs typically require applicants to have an OSSD before they can enroll.
Nurse or PSW (Personal Support Worker): Admission to nursing and PSW programs almost always requires a completed OSSD, especially for public college programs.
Firefighter: Many firefighting programs require an OSSD as a baseline requirement before additional certifications and physical testing.
Corrections or Border Services Officer: These roles often require a combination of an OSSD and a post-secondary diploma or relevant experience.
Armed Forces or Military Services: While some roles may allow entry with partial high school, an OSSD increases your eligibility, rank potential, and access to specialized training programs.
College or University Admissions: Whether it’s for a diploma or degree, having your OSSD opens the door to applying to public and private post-secondary institutions across Canada.
The bottom line is this: the OSSD is more than a piece of paper — it’s a passport to opportunity in Canada.
Real People, Real Results
We’ve had the honour of working with many adults who once thought graduation was out of reach.
Marissa, a 34-year-old mother of two, came to Aubrey Academy after immigrating to Canada. She had completed high school in the Philippines but didn’t have a recognized diploma here. Through PLAR and online courses in English and Math, she was able to earn her OSSD and later apply to nursing programs in Ontario. “I never thought I’d have a second chance. Aubrey Academy made it possible. The support I got was amazing, even though I was nervous at first as there was many courses to complete, they made it manageable,” she said.
Kevin, who left high school in Grade 11 to work and support his family, decided as an adult that he wanted to pursue a career in law enforcement. “When I started looking into applying to the police force, I realized that I needed my Ontario Secondary School Diploma before I could even begin the application process. I thought it was too late, but Aubrey Academy helped me figure it out. I could complete the courses online in the evenings, and I never felt judged or behind. It felt like I was finally getting the chance to start something I’d put on hold for too long.”
These stories are just two examples of what’s possible when adult learners are given the tools, support, and flexibility they need.
Your Diploma, Your Future
Earning your OSSD as an adult can unlock more than just post-secondary opportunities. It can lead to better job prospects, access to training programs, and the personal satisfaction of achieving a goal that once felt out of reach. Employers and colleges alike recognize the OSSD as a symbol of readiness and commitment.
The good news is: the path forward is clearer than ever. You don’t need to return to a traditional classroom or attend night school in person. With Aubrey Academy, your learning is customized to your schedule, your background, and your goals.
