Introduction
Aubrey Academy is committed to supporting homeschool students in achieving their educational goals. This guide explains our Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) process for students seeking admission and working toward an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
PLAR allows Aubrey Academy to review evidence of previous learning to determine appropriate placement, validate prerequisite knowledge, and develop an individualized pathway toward graduation. Evidence is reviewed on a course-by-course basis against Ontario curriculum expectations.

PLAR Review Process
Initial consultation with the student and family.
Submission of academic records and evidence of learning.
Review of documentation against Ontario curriculum expectations.
Determination of prerequisite achievement and appropriate placement.
Development of an individualized pathway toward the OSSD.
Recommendation of any remaining credits required for graduation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my child automatically receive credits?
No. Recognition depends on the evidence provided and how it aligns with Ontario curriculum expectations.
What if I don't have formal report cards?
Portfolios, assignments, projects, assessments, and other evidence may also be submitted.
Will Aubrey Academy tell us what credits are still needed?
Yes. Following the review, students receive a personalized learning pathway outlining remaining graduation requirements.
