Who should take HHS4U online?
HHS4U supports more than one pathway. Whether you are heading to university, college, an apprenticeship or the skilled trades, or straight into the workplace, this credit counts toward your OSSD.
- Students applying to social work, psychology, sociology, education, nursing or child and youth programs
- Students heading to college programs such as early childhood education or social service work, or straight into the workplace
- Students who need a Grade 12 U credit for their top six
- Students interested in how individuals and families develop and change
- Graduates and mature students completing a missing university course

Families in Canada, Grade 12, University Preparation (HHS4U)
This course enables students to draw on sociological, psychological, and anthropological theories and research to analyse the development of individuals, intimate relationships, and family and parent-child relationships. Students will focus on issues and challenges facing individuals and families in Canada’s diverse society. They will develop analytical tools that enable them to assess various factors affecting families and to consider policies and practices intended to support families in Canada. They will develop the investigative skills required to conduct and communicate the results of research on individuals, intimate relationships, and parent-child relationships.
Prerequisite: Any university or university/college preparation course in social sciences and humanities, English, or Canadian and world studies

How the online course works
- Register online and receive access to your course in Google Classroom.
- Learn at your pace with lessons and assignments. Your teacher returns feedback and grades, usually within 3 to 5 business days.
- Complete your assessments as you finish each unit, with support from your teacher along the way.
- Receive your credit. We send your final mark to your home school and submit it to OUAC.

The course has 110 hours of lessons. You have 4 months from enrollment, and extensions are available up to 12 months in total. Many students finish sooner because the course is self-paced.
Will my HHS4U mark be accepted?
Yes. Aubrey Academy is Ministry-inspected, and we submit your final grade directly to OUAC and send your report card to your home school.
I already took HHS4U. Can I raise my mark?
Yes. Our Mark Upgrade option builds on the work you already completed instead of retaking the full course.
