Who should take SCH3U online?
SCH3U supports more than one pathway. Whether you are heading to university, college, an apprenticeship or the skilled trades, or straight into the workplace, this credit counts toward your OSSD.
- Students planning university programs in science, engineering, health sciences or nursing that build on senior chemistry
- Students heading to college health, laboratory or chemical technology programs, or trades that work with materials and chemicals, who want a strong chemistry foundation
- Students who need SCH3U as the prerequisite for SCH4U Grade 12 Chemistry
- Students who want to get ahead or free up space in their regular timetable
- Students who need a stronger SCH3U mark or a missing science credit
- Homeschooled students, student-athletes and international students who need a flexible schedule
What you will learn
- Matter, chemical trends and bonding: Explore the periodic table, chemical trends and the nature of ionic and covalent bonds.
- Chemical reactions: Identify and predict the products of common types of chemical reactions.
- Quantities in chemical reactions: Use the mole concept and stoichiometry to solve quantitative problems.
- Solutions and solubility: Investigate the properties of solutions, concentration and solubility.
- Gases and atmospheric chemistry: Apply the gas laws and examine the chemistry of the atmosphere.
Official Ontario course description
Chemistry, Grade 11, University (SCH3U)
This course enables students to deepen their understanding of chemistry through the study of the properties of chemicals and chemical bonds; chemical reactions and quantitative relationships in those reactions; solutions and solubility; and atmospheric chemistry and the behaviour of gases. Students will further develop their analytical skills and investigate the qualitative and quantitative properties of matter, as well as the impact of some common chemical reactions on society and the environment.
Prerequisite: Grade 10 Science, Academic
